How to construct stairs? Stairs should ascend from east to west or south to north – one should not climb from west to east or north to south. For houses with main doors facing east or west, if stairs need to be constructed outside the house or aligned with the outer wall, they should ascend directly from east to west, alongside the north wall, reaching the first landing in the east and proceeding towards the west. The upper part should enter from the eastern or central portion.
For houses with main doors facing north or south, stairs should be constructed outside, parallel to the house’s wall, with stairs ascending from south to north, alongside the east wall or directly from the eastern wall, reaching the upper destination through the eastern or central portion. In the west-north-west direction, stairs should ascend straight from west to east, aligned with the western wall, entering the upper destination from the upper or central portion.
If someone wishes to ascend stairs directly in rooms, without touching the walls, a minimum gap of three inches should be left while ascending straight from north to south or east to west. Alternatively, one should ascend directly from east to west or south to north without touching the south wall or directly ascending the south wall. One should ascend either directly from the west or with a gap from the north, leaving at least three inches from the northern wall.
When ascending stairs outside or inside the house and changing direction, first ascend from east to west or north to south, then turn and ascend in another direction.
If stairs are to be constructed towards the southeast corner outside the house, ascend directly from the south to the north without touching the east wall, then turn and ascend from south to north, entering the elevated ground from the balcony. If you want to construct stairs towards the west, do not enter the western part of the house through the west – Nairitya. You can start from the west-central part instead. There should not be an ascent from the west through the central Nairitya angle. It is essential to have a room in the Nairitya angle; therefore, stairs should not be constructed there.
Stairs should never be constructed in the Ishan corner and Nairitya corner.
